GEORGE TOWN, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- Almost 80 per cent of Penang, involving a population of about 1.3 million people, will be affected by a water supply disruption of between 12 and 24 hours from 7am on Dec 28.
Penang Water Supply Board (PWSB) general manager Ir Jaseni Maidinsa said there would be a 24 hour water supply disruption on that day in Gertak Sanggul and Teluk Kumbar, while in Seberang Perai, Georgetown, Farlim, Bayan Baru, Bayan Lepas and Batu Maung the water supply disruption would be for 12 hours.
He said resident in Tanjung Bungah, Batu Ferringhi and Teluk Bahang would not be affected.
"The water supply disruption is due to upgrading and maintenance work of the water treatment plants at Sungai Dua, Seberang Perai and Stesen Pam Bukit Dumbar on the island," he told reporters here Thursday.
Jaseni said that during the period, PWSB would also conduct its periodical electrical and mechanical maintenance work at the Stesen Pam Bukit Dumbar and also to carry out installation of main pipes at Simpang Jalan Sungai Dua, Jalan Pekan Darat and Jalan Bukit Tengah for the double track railway project.
He said the state government and industry players had been informed about the expected water supply disruption.
He advised residents to store enough water for use during the period.
For further information, the public can contact the PWSB 24hr-call centre at 04-5096509.
